PCTI have been awarded a contract to supply the Docman Electronic Document Management (EDM) solution and Electronic Document Transfer (EDT) software to all practices within the Wolverhampton PCT.
The project commences immediately with roll out of Docman to over 50 practices achieving 100% coverage across the PCT.  This will ensure that all practices will benefit from the many efficiency gains that Docman has to offer.  The project is set to be completed by February 2011.

Key to the project for the PCT and the Practices was the ability to receive documents electronically and realise the benefits associated with the timely transmission of clinical documents.

Stuart Cooper, Head of IM&T Strategy & Development at Wolverhampton City PCT, “The key drivers behind the project were the efficiency gains at a GP practice and the improved quality and speed of information. A year ago it could take 6-8 days for a document to reach a GP’s desktop, by using EDT, letters are with a GP within 24 hours, which no doubt benefits patients.”

“The solution offers high levels of security and is extremely flexible to how GP practices work. Documents are received electronically when a practices prefers and can be entered into a workflow instantly.”

In addition to the core EDM software, practices will be using iWorkflow, the next generation action based workflow and Intellisense, the advanced Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that automatically detects the patient, their filing details and any associated Read coding.

Vijay Patel, Project Manager and Ranjee Singh, Project Implementation at the PCT, “The project has an ‘aggressive’ delivery timescale, however working very closely with the technical and professional teams within PCTI and the PCT has ensured we will achieve this deadline.”

Ric Thompson, Managing Director at PCTI, “More and more customers are adopting our Electronic Document Transfer (EDT) solution to send and receive electronic documents directly between provider and GP.  This is having a huge positive impact for the practice, hospitals and patients.  The hospitals are realising significant cost savings, the practice are receiving electronic documents directly into their workflow with automatic patient filing and patients can discuss their clinical letters with their GP days after a discharge.”

The practices are also looking forward to using Docman to manage their back office tasks through the software’s extensive non-clinical document management functionality.
