PCTI, the specialist provider of electronic document management, messaging and workflow solutions announces the roll-out of their interoperability solution, EDT Connect to all practices across Warwickshire PCT.

The PCT rolled-out the Docman electronic document management and workflow solution to all 74 Warwickshire practices in 2008 as part of their strategy to move towards paper light, improving efficiency and providing cost savings.  EDT Connect will enhance Docman enabling practices to receive all of their clinical documents electronically.

The key project driver for EDT Connect was to enable electronic documents to be delivered into the practices from University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. This enables the documents to arrive complete with important meta data, improving data quality, saving valuable document filing time and providing instant document access for all authorised practice staff.  On arrival into the practice the electronic documents enter the Docman intelligent workflow where they are re-routed using ‘one click’ quick-steps to the appropriate clinician for review and action.

Docman and EDT Connect forms an essential part of the clinical software within a GP practice and works in harmony with all the major GP Clinical systems.  There are almost 5,500 practices using Docman to support over 20m patient’s clinical correspondence.

Kay Rhodes, Primary Care IT Project Manager, Warwickshire ICT Services “the main driver behind rolling out Docman to all practices was to improve the efficiency of the workflow within practices by reducing the paper trail in line with paper-light working. The next phase of the project is to roll-out EDT to enable electronic documents to be delivered into normal GP workflow processes well within 24 hours.”

“One benefit is that documents are delivered with attached information so they are automatically workflowed, which is much better than the manual process, removing human error and ensuring practices have access to an up-to-date record. The solution provides information to practices faster and transmits patient letters in a secure, fully auditable method.”

Tim Robinson, Sales and Marketing Manager, PCTI “It has been a real pleasure working with Warwickshire and it’s fantastic to see 100% of the practices benefiting from Docman. Now that our EDT software will remove the paper document being sent to the practices, the solution is going to save them even more time and money.”

“We are really pleased to offer a complete end-to-end solution to minimise keystrokes and automate many processes that save practices hours every week. We are now arranging user groups with the practices which will introduce Docman BackOffice that will further streamline processes and help practices achieve complete paper-light status.”

Docman BackOffice, is an intranet and content management solution that facilitates collaborative working, knowledge management and business process management for busy healthcare organisations.
