King’s College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recently deployed Docman RMS as their referral management system and has now been selected to present as part of the E-Health Insider Live Best Practice Showcase.

The presentation from Clive Stringer, Deputy IT Director and Steve Groves, System Manager takes place at 11:00am, 6th November at the Best Practice Showcase theatre.

Managing incoming referrals that are received in differing ways can be a challenging and time consuming process for any health organisation. King’s has implemented a fully electronic system to capture, file, workflow and view referrals electronically. It is considered that King’s is the first trust to implement an electronic system to manage referrals received via email, fax, through the post, or through Choose and Book. The session will include an introduction to the problem of receiving incoming referral letters from a variety of sources before implementing an electronic system. It will also include the process of rolling out the solution and benefits analysis.

Clive Stringer, King’s deputy director of IT, who recently presented at the PCTI National User Conference, said “King’s originally looked at Docman as a potential solution to a referral vetting service we were being asked to provide on the behalf of local PCT’s. It quickly became apparent that as well as fulfilling that requirement it could also support internal referral processes that were being handled on paper with all the risks that entails. Docman supports the Trust’s goal to move to a paper free or paper light environment.

EHI Live 2012, the essential two day conference and exhibition where the eHealth community meets. The show will take place once again at the NEC, Birmingham on 6-7 November 2012.
